Pound: Figure skating a 'nightmare sport'

파운드는 피겨스케이팅은 악몽의 스포츠라고 말한다.



Richard Pound says figure skating remains a "nightmare sport" and that the judging system remains susceptible to corruption.


리쳐드 파운드 는 피겨스케이팅은 여전히 악몽의 스포츠로 남아 있고 판정 시스템은 여전히 부폐하기 쉽다고 말한다.



Speaking to a business conference in B.C. on Monday, the former International Olympic Committee vice-president says figure skaters can't be sure a scandal similar to the one that engulfed the Games in 2002 won't happen again.



월요일 British Columbia 에서 있었던 비지니스 모임의 연설에서 이 과거의 International Olympic Committee (국제 올림픽 위원회) 부사장은 2002년 올림픽을 삼켜버렸던 것과 유사한 스켄들이 다시 일어나지 않으리라고 장담 할 수 없다고 말한다.



"I don't see much improvement," Pound tells the Vancouver Sun. "You don't know what's going through (the judges') minds. It's so corrupt that the judging is anonymous."


파운드는 벤쿠버 선지와의 담화에서 "나는 별로 나아진 것을 못 느끼겠네요. 심판들 마음이 어떤지 어떻게 알겠어요. 얼마나 부폐했으면 판정이 익명으로 나오겠어요 "라고 말한다.


Following the 2002 scandal which cost Canadian skers Jaime Sale and David Pelletier a gold medal, the International Skating Union overhauled the scoring system, introducing anonymous judging. Pound says the changes did not go far enough.


카나다의 Jaime Sale 와 David Pelletier 에게서 금메달을 뺏어갔던 2002년의 스켄들을 만회 할려고 ISU 가 판정 시스템을 세세히 조사했었다. 파운드가 그 변화들은 부족한 점이 많았다라고 말한다.


"Any time you've got judges not having to account for the scores, that's a problem," he said. "In my respectful view, they don't have control of it yet."

 
"점수에 대해 책임을 지지 않게 심판을 내버려둔다는 것은 문제가 많아요. 제 소견으로는 아직도 그들은 완전히 그것을 콘트롤 하지 못하고 있어요"라고 그가 말했다.


Ted Barton, the executive director of Figure Skating British Columbia - who had a hand in the new scoring system - calls Pound's comments "irresponsible".


이 새 판정 시스템을 만든데에 관여한 적 있는 Figure Skating British Columbia 의 이사 Ted Barton 은 파운드 의 발언은 무책임한 것이라고 말한다.


"I think it is reckless and inconsiderate," he tells the newspaper. "A man of his stature should know better to do your homework before making a comment like that. I don't mean to be rude to Mr. Pound, and I have tremendous respect for his work, but that does not mean he deserves respect for a comment like that."


"이건 무모하고 경솔한 발언이에요. 그 정도 위치에 있는 사람이라면 이런 발언을 하기 전에 뭘 좀 알아 보고서 해야겠지요. 파운드 씨를 무례하게 대하고 싶은 생각은 없고 그가 전에 훌륭한 일을 했다고 생각하지만 그렇다고해서 이런 벌언을 할 만큼은 아니지요"라고 Barton은 벤쿠버 선지와의 담화에서 말했다.


Barton agrees that the system could be better but stands by the changes, saying it has given the power "back to the athletes".


Barton 은 이 시스템이 더 낫게 개정 될었을 수 도 있었을 거라며 동의 했지만  새 시스템이 선수들에게 힘을 되돌려 주었다고 말하면서 이 새로운 변화를 옹호했다.
